A duck hunter died at Bunbartha on the opening day of the duck hunting season.

Police said emergency services were called to Loch Garry Rd after reports a man had been located unresponsive in the water about 5.45pm on Wednesday, April 10.

The 73-year-old Kialla man was found in the weir at Loch Garry and died at the scene.

The alarm was raised after the man failed to return from duck hunting.

Emergency services, including police and Shepparton Search and Rescue, attended the scene.

While Shepparton Search and Rescue was asked to prepare its boat, it was not launched into the water, and volunteers were only required to provide lighting for police.

The man’s death is not being treated as suspicious.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
