Early morning brawl leads to seven arrests

Seven people have been charged after an early morning brawl broke out in the streets of a small Moira Shire town earlier this month.

Katamatite police Detective Senior Constable Charles Ryall said police responded to a brawl outside a business in Beek St, Katamatite at 12.30am on June 1.

Police believe the brawl was between two groups who were known to each other.

Det Sen Constable Ryall said a man received lacerations to the face and a vehicle was damaged in the incident.

Katamatite and Cobram police searched a Cobram home on June 7, and five people were arrested and charged.

A 22-year-old Katunga man and a 21-year-old Dookie man were charged with affray, while an 18-year-old Barooga man was charged with affray, criminal damage and possessing cannabis.

A 21-year-old Cobram woman was charged with affray, common law assault and unlawful assault, and a 16-year-old girl was charged with affray, assault with a weapon, and using a prohibited weapon.

Police searched a Naring property six days later — on June 13.

A 22-year-old Naring man was charged with affray, two counts of common law assault, intentionally causing injury, recklessly causing injury and two counts of unlawful assault.

A 19-year-old Naring woman was charged with affray, common law assault and unlawful assault.

All the adults were bailed to appear in Cobram Magistrates’ Court on November 6, while the 16-year-old was bailed to appear in a children’s court.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.
