The Echuca Farmers Market is returning to its spiritual home.

The market is back at the Aquatic Reserve from 8am on Saturday after a stint at the Alton Gardens following October’s floods.

Echuca Farmers Market president Tim Harley was delighted to receive the green light from Campaspe Shire Council earlier this week.

“The council has given us the clearance to come back, this has always been our home, so it’s a homecoming for us,” he said.

Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos said the return of the markets to the Aquatic Reserve was a welcome one for all parties.

“Safety has always been our number one priority for stallholders, visitors and residents,” Cr Amos said.

“With the market returning to the Aquatic Reserve, we’re looking forward to big crowds.”

Cr Amos said the market continued to grow in stature.

“The market originally only started with 10 stallholders and has now grown to 30,” he said.

Residents and visitors will now have another option for a range of fresh produce and yummy sweets which can be purchased at the bi-monthly event, which attracts visitors from far and wide.

Echuca Farmers Market secretary Gladys Harley is also excited about the return to normality.

“When visitors come to the farmers’ market, they know they’re going to meet the grower and be able to get fresh produce,” she said.

The location of the market at Aquatic Reserve is also enhanced by the bridge crossing over the Murray River.

“The location will attract visitors who are crossing the bridge as well as cars who see the market,” she said.

“The market is a community event and a place for local and visitors to buy farm-fresh products which are available twice a month.

“Come out and support local businesses.”

The market gets under way from 8am on Saturday and normally finishes about midday.
