Entries for this year’s Echuca Moama Arts Initiative Art Prize are still open, and Jill Kenley is busy preparing her artwork.
The local artist has yet to begin her piece that will be entered into the prize, but said the theme of ‘10’ would influence her work.
“I was working on something, but I love maps and working with maps in my work,” Mrs Kenley said.
“The emphasis (for the prize) is on ‘10’, so I thought I would cut up numbers out of street maps for 10, but I’m just getting inspired.
“I think I need to incorporate 10 into it, and I think I’ll go down the track of maps, and oils, and think of the relevance that 10 has for me.”
Mrs Kenley has been associated with the Foundry since its inception, and has been on the committee in the past.
“It’s the first ever Echuca Art Prize that’s been held,” she said.
“This is the very first time that EMAI has had an art prize, and they’ve got funding for it.”
EMAI was established in October 2010, and held its first arts festival in November 2011, and the 2022 Art Prize will be a celebration of the initiative’s 10-year — plus one — anniversary.
The prize committee is already receiving interest from a wide range of local and regional artists, whose artwork is to reflect their imaginings of “10” in 2D or 3D visual media (with the exception of photography and digital media).
Applications are open for entry in either the Open or Young Creatives (age 16 to 21) categories. Entries close on June 22.
A $4000 prize pool will be awarded, with $2500 first prize, $750 highly commended, $500 people’s choice and a $250 art supplies voucher to the Young Creatives winner.

All sponsors, including the prize naming-right sponsorships ranging from $2500 to $100, will be acknowledged in promotional material, certificates and at events held during the exhibition of entries being held at The Foundry Arts Space from July 22 to August 14.
