Several future residents and their families visited Gunn Rd, where Emblem Benalla is being built, to chat with developers and get a guided tour of the site as it grows.
Several local people chatted excitedly with relatives about the floor plans, where the clubhouse would be, how nice it would be to immerse themselves in the new community and much more.
Emblem group director Rowan Pollard said he was excited to discuss the development with its first purchasers.
“I think at the moment we've got nine purchasers, and a few more looking at it,” he said.
He said the open day was successful.
“I think the feedback we’re getting today is that they all seem to be very excited about what we’re doing and the quality of the homes.
“What we’re looking at is that active downsizing market. It’s people that still want to live locally, but they don’t want the burden of their big house any more.
“They also want that financial freedom of downsizing and having money to actually enjoy retirement, not just having that burden of maintenance and gardens they can’t look after.
“We’re providing a solution that allows them to actually still have the benefits of gardens which they don’t have to worry about maintaining it.
“They get the enjoyment without the hassle.
“Then they’ve also got the other people, like-minded people, that active group that want to enjoy retirement.”
Mr Pollard said the whole development was designed for ageing in place.
“It’s designed that you’re moving here, and it’s designed to age with you.
“The bathrooms are designed for that, the doors are designed for that.
“They can live here for a long time without having to go to an age care facility.”
Mr Pollard said the display homes would be finished by September, with building work ongoing.
“We’re really focused on making sure that the quality is up to speed and all little design features are ironed out.
“The displays homes are two great prototypes on what we’re doing and how we’re doing it.
“Once they’re finished, people will actually see that quality.”
Mr Pollard said while the homes were designed for those who were downsizing, there was lots of storage.
“If you’re selling your big house you’re probably going to have a few things in the garage or the spare room that you need to put somewhere,” he said.
He also spoke of the benefits of the location of the development.
“People are just a short drive to the CBD with all the restaurants and the art gallery,” he said.
“And of course you have the golf course next door.
“We are going over there with the purchasers and their families after this open day.
“There will be about 25 of us having lunch there, which is great.”
