Emma Memma is booping and twirling her way to Shepparton.
For the first time, Emma “Memma” Watkins will be bringing her popular live show to Shepparton, as she kicks off the Boop and Twirl tour this July.
“This is the debut,” Emma said.
“We haven’t bought an experience like this to Shepparton, ever.”
For over ten years, Emma has been dancing and twirling her way into the hearts of children across the country.
For her new tour, Emma’s planning to bring more shows out to regional Australia, with Shepparton near the top of her list.
“We’ve had a lot of different cities on our list that we wanted to come visit, and Shepparton was one of them,” she said.
“We were wanting to bring the same quality show that we would have [brought] to some of the bigger cities to regional places across Australia.”
This tour promises all of Emma Memma’s biggest hits, from familiar tunes to new songs off her latest album, Twirly Tunes.
Kids can also expect to see all of their favourite friends, with Elvin Melvin, BB Butterfly and Waffles the Wombat all coming on the road.
“Well, because this is the Boop and Twirl Tour, we’re doing Boop on Your Nose, which is a brand new song from our new album,” she said.
“And we have quite a lot of favourites like Twirly Tuesday, and Hello, How Are You?.
“It’s really an Emma Memma show that encapsulates all of our songs from when we started.
“We’ve been able to collect some of our favourites, and this show is a collection of the absolute favourites.”
Another favourite that Emma’s excited to play is Wave Goodbye to the Sun.
“It’s not necessarily a lullaby, but it is about the night time and the stars and the moon, the shape of the moon... and it’s just a really beautiful song,” she said.
“When we were writing it, myself and my husband with our deaf consultants and Elvin too, we were all trying to figure it out and guess what the most exciting song is on this new album for everybody?
“It’s actually one of the more relaxed songs, and that song has by far been the most popular.”
Every Emma Memma show is fully accessible, so hearing impaired families can still get involved and interact with the show.
“We provide our show in English, dance and Auslan, so it really doesn’t matter what kind of communication style you prefer to use, we offer everything at the same time,” she said.
“Our real reason to be able to bring Emma Memma to life was to integrate sign language in the main event.
“So we do actually have an interpreter at every show, and it’s something that we take full responsibility to do.
“With Elvin being profoundly deaf, he can actually show, teach and demonstrate the signs, but also represent the way that the expression goes with that sign, so that is actually integrated in our show.
“Elvin doesn’t stand on the side, he stands right next to me, and we dance the whole show together. ”
This show will be fully interactive, with everyone encouraged to get up, dance, sing and have fun.
“We just can’t wait to dance with everyone,” Emma said.
