After receiving quite a few complaints from the Shepparton public about the new traffic lights at the exit to the former Maude St Mall, the News went to investigate on Tuesday, February 7.

Each of the four traffic lights at the Maude St and High St intersection were timed for 10 minutes at peak lunch hour.

It was found that the Maude St traffic lights were red for longer, affecting the flow of traffic.

Not only were the traffic lights in favour of High St vehicles, but the pedestrian lights also made it more difficult for Maude St traffic to exit the intersection.

On average, only three cars made it through each cycle.

This graph contains the data collected on Tuesday, showing the ratio of red light to green light time in seconds for each of the four traffic lights.

The northbound Maude St stop, which faces towards the former mall, has the highest amount of time in red and the lowest in green.

The eastbound High St lights, which face towards the showgrounds, were the only lights to have more green than red light.
