Tatura is looking to the future.

Transition Tatura Film Festival will open conversations on living sustainably with three guest speakers, and for the first time since 2019, will be held in person.

The day wouldn’t be complete without the presentation of masterpieces from the environmental art challenge.

Transition Tatura called for students across the region to create an art piece in response to the topic of ‘more self-sufficient living’.

“We’ve opened up the discipline of works; originally it was only short films but now students can make visual, performance, literature or media,” Transition Tatura member Ross Musolino said.

“We’re already so impressed with the entrants.”

Communities Shaping the Future: Transitions Tatura will hold the event on Saturday, August 27.

Guest speakers include City of Greater Shepparton Councillor Sam Spinks on transport planning and Peter Foott on waste management, along with architect Henning Rasmussen, who has a passion for energy efficiency and passive solar design.

Royden James will speak on building his own sustainable home, along with Louise Costa and Les Pelle, who have built their own all-electric, off-grid home.

The event will take place at the Mechanic’s Institute Hall at 75 Hogan St, Tatura on Saturday, August 27. It will run from 10am to 3pm. The presentation of school artworks and a student Q&A will run from 2pm to 3pm. For more information, call Ross on 0407 845 247.

Tickets online are $22 or $25 at the door, kids are $11.50; no cost to attend only the school art presentation. To book, visit https://events.ticketbooth.com.au/event/communities-shaping-the-future-self-sufficiency
