Esther’s back-to-school drive returns as cost-of-living pressures bite

After the success of her back-to-school drive in 2024, Esther Davies is determined to help even more families in 2025.

When she conceived the idea of encouraging local people to donate essential school items to assist families doing it tough, the cost of living was a big driver.

Since that time, things have only become worse, and even more local families will be looking at school supplies wondering how they will be able to afford them.

“It’ll be the same as last year,” Esther said.

“I have a list of items students will need, (including) drink bottles, backpacks and uniforms.

“I’ve got a lot of second-hand uniforms that are in good condition. I’ve been given some bits from (the school’s) lost and found.”

If anyone has Benalla school uniforms the kids have grown out of, and no younger siblings to pass them to, Esther said she would love to have them donated.

“The schools supply a lot of things, like pens and pencils,” Esther said.

“But having something like a new lunch box means so much to a young person.”

Items requested include:

  • Lunch boxes
  • Drink bottles
  • Stationery
  • Uniforms
  • Plain socks black, navy or white
  • Shoes (only school uniform required shoes please )
  • Backpacks
  • School hats

Officeworks Shepparton is once again helping out and Esther is scheduled to visit the store to pick up a donation.

Once all donations have been collected, Esther will be at the Tomorrow Today Foundation in Cecily Court, Nunn St, Benalla, where she will distribute the items to those who need them.

If you have any items you can donate, contact Esther on 0424 816 767.

If you are in need of some of the items Esther has collected, pop along to Cecily Court on: Monday, January 20 from 11am to 4pm, or Tuesday, January 21 from 11am to 4pm.
