Events highlight benefits of workplace-based training

About 200 local business leaders attended GOTAFE’s Industry Connector Events.

In a move to revolutionise regional workforce development, GOTAFE’s 2024 Industry Connector Events drew a crowd of 200 local business leaders eager to unlock the potential of workplace-based training.

The tri-city tour, spanning Shepparton, Seymour and Wangaratta, served as a catalyst for accelerating the region’s workforce capabilities through this innovative training model.

Internationally renowned workplace-based training expert Nicholas Wyman spoke at all three events.

He emphasised the changing learning needs of industry and the importance of tailoring training programs to match specific needs and timelines.

“Workplace-based training, including apprenticeships and traineeships, plays a vital role in building our future workforce in our region,” GOTAFE executive director student experience Laura Baker said.

GOTAFE alumni Jono Chan, who completed a commercial cookery apprenticeship and now employs apprentices in his business, shared his experience at the Shepparton event.

“Having been an apprentice and now employing apprentices in my business, I know the value of workplace-based training,” he said.

The events aimed to support businesses considering employing apprentices or trainees.
