Fire Rescue Victoria and CFA attended a fire at a Shepparton factory on Sunday afternoon.

The fire, which started in a dumpster next to the factory in Hawkins St, was reported to 000 by Shepparton resident Shane Martin at 5pm.

Mr Martin said it felt “a bit weird” to call the emergency line.

“I’ve never had to call 000 before,” Mr Martin said.

“But there was too much black smoke and got big a bit too quickly to not ring them.”

FRV said firefighting crews arrived on scene within six minutes and worked quickly to extinguish the blaze before searching the adjoining factory for any further signs of fire.

The fire was contained and deemed under control within seven minutes of crews arriving.
