Fatal crash at Arcadia

A man has died in a fatal crash at Arcadia on Sunday, September 3.

Police believe the man was driving north on the Goulburn Valley Fwy when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a tree near Dawson Rd sometime overnight.

The vehicle appears to have gone over the top of roadside barriers and into trees on a median strip between the north and south lanes of the freeway.

A passer-by came across the crash just after 7.30am Sunday and called emergency services.

The driver, a Tullamarine man, 44, was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

He died at the scene.

On Sunday morning, the north-bound lane of the freeway remained closed in the area, with traffic diverted from Moorilim Rd and through Murchison.

The south-bound lane remained open.

The crash happened only a few kilometres south of the part of the road that turns from a highway into a freeway.

The circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be established and the investigation remains ongoing.
