Federation youth in the Limelight

A mesmerising art installation has onlookers in raptures at last year’s Limelight Festival.

Limelight 3.0 Festival will set Bangerang Park alight on April 18 in a celebration of youth arts.

Federation Council in partnership with Murray Arts will bring the third iteration of the highly successful youth festival to Corowa as part of the Federation Youth Event Assistant Program (FYEAP)

Supported by the NSW Government through the Youth Week Program, this particular initiative was established to deliver a career development opportunity for youth aged 16 to 24 living in the Federation LGA.

Limelight Artistic Director Alyce Fisher said the event’s unique approach to combining artist installations with science experimentation and light projections has been a real winner with the community.

Follow the lantern lit trail and delight in the artistic expressions of our youth.

“The artists who have been chosen this year to present their work have really exceeded our expectations with their ability to think outside of the box and meld their individual creative practice with interactive audience participation and experimentation,” Ms Fisher said.

Audiences will experience magic shows, projections, laser and sound performances, animated storytelling, interactive music making, light projects, glow in the dark drawing, and be able take a selfie in their very own hot air balloon.

“Adults and children alike are invited to discover, engage, and play as they wander along the lantern lit trail to each of the unique installations.”

The five successful applicants for the FYEAP have been working with Murray Arts for a number of weeks and provided with an introduction to the Creative Industries GIG Economy.

As a part of the program they have acquired events industry experience, small business skills training and a reference for future employment opportunities with an aim to increase youth involvement in their local community and assist in their future social and economic participation.

Executive Director of Murray Arts, Lauren Black, believes the event is a great opportunity for both the program participants and the wider community to discover the incredible artists and creative practitioners we have right here on the border.

“I’m very proud of not only of the artists and their creative vision but the entire creative administration and operational team working on this event,” Ms Black said.

“We look forward to welcoming the whole community to the Limelight event in Corowa on April 18.”
