Save the date for the inaugural Numurkah Baala Creek Bites and Brews Festival on Saturday, May 6.

The free family-friendly festival is being run by the Numurkah Love our Lifestyle organisation at the Louis Hamon Gardens in Nurmurkah with funding from Moira Shire Council and is aimed to showcase all that Numurkah and the surrounding area has to offer.

Numurkah Love our Lifestyle president Cathy Palmer said that the group wanted to create an event for all ages and abilities which would bring the community together and lift spirits.

“The last major event was the Numurkah Foodbowl Festival more than five years ago,” Ms Palmer said.

“The town has suffered from droughts and floods with very little to celebrate, so I wanted to put a strong emphasis on the community coming together and celebrate what makes the region great.”

The festival will have something for everyone and will include a dedicated kids entertainer, jumping castle, electronic bucking bulls, the Dookie miniature train, miniature ponies doing an obstacle course, roving artists and live music throughout the event.

The North East Skate Park Series Competition will also be part of the festival and is set to amaze attendees with various skateboard tricks.

To cap the event off, there will also be a fireworks display at 7.30pm.

For food and drink enthusiasts, there will be food trucks to cater to everyone’s tastes, an afternoon tea run by the local Country Women’s Association branch and the Shepparton Micro Brewery and Telegraph Hotel will be serving up everyone’s favourite beverages.

To ensure safe travel to and from the event, organisers have arranged a complementary bus to run between Nathalia, Waaia, Wunghnu and Katunga.

Ms Palmer said it was right to hold an event for everyone to enjoy.

“There is a lot of entertainment to suit everyone as well as food. There is plenty for families to come and enjoy without spending money and for young adults there are drinks and entertainment and the chance to socialise as a community,” she said.

As for future events, Ms Palmer is hoping the Numurkah Baala Creek Bites and Brews Festival helps put the town on the map and becomes a yearly highlight.

“We hope to make this event an annual thing, putting Numurkah on the map, and to do that we need as much support as possible,” she said.
