Fire open day this Sunday

Bruce Reid unveils the plaque commemorating the Kilmany Park Farm Home for Boys, where he lived in the 1950s.

Get down to the Tocumwal Rural Fire Service’s open day this Sunday, starting from 10am.

Bring the kids down for a barbecue and to get involved with live demonstrations from RFS members.

Kids will get the chance to squirt a real fire hose.

There will also be a Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter display, fire trucks on show, kids show bags and a jumping castle.

Don’t miss the chance to gain important information on how to be fire ready this Summer.

Congratulations to Emily Tuck who won the pharmacy’s shop local promotion and claimed the brand-new fridge full of food to the value of $3,000.

Emily was able to get her fridge from Betta Electrical Cobram and then fill that fridge from IGA Tocumwal.

Dutch Thunder Wildlife Shelter have teamed up with Hook'd on the Murray Tocumwal fishing store, with a shelter donation bin now in store.

The bin has a list of food items, cleaning products and other items which can be donated to help the animals in care.

Tocumwal Lions Club held a successful street stall last Friday.

Heather Veal won the hamper very kindly donated by March’s IGA.

Save the date for the Tocumwal Town Garage Sale which will be hosted by the Tocumwal Lions Club on Saturday, November 16.

The Tocumwal Ambulance Committee and Berrigan Shire invite the community to attend a public meeting on Thursday, September 26, at 6.30pm at the Tocumwal War Memorial Hall.

This meeting is to gauge interest in forming a local Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) in Tocumwal.

NSW Ambulance reps from Sydney will be in attendance to provide information and answer any questions the community may have regarding its operation.

CERTs are operated by trained volunteers who will undertake special training and be equipped by NSW Ambulance to improve health outcomes of patients in regional and rural locations in NSW before paramedics arrive.

There will be a light supper afterwards. Please RSVP your attendance for catering purposes to ambo4toc@berriganshire.nsw.gov.au or phone council on 5888 5100. Walk-ins are also very welcome.

The countdown to summer is on and the Tocumwal and Barooga Splash Parks are set to open this Saturday.

The team at Berrigan Shire Council is working hard to ensure this remains the opening date, but may be subject to change.

Three generations of a local family travelled to Sale recently for an event commemorating the more than 1000 children who attended Kilmany Park Farm Home for Boys between 1924 and 1978.

Bruce Reid was one of the boys at the institute from 1956 to 1961, before he joined his older sister in Tocumwal.

Bruce had the honour of unveiling a plaque at St Columba’s Uniting Church, accompanied by his wife Mary, their daughters Kylie and Lynsie, and grandchildren Tobias and Adelise.
