There is a stereotype of firefighters rescuing kittens stuck in trees.
On Tuesday, January 10, there was a slightly different take on that.
This time a group of kittens had to be rescued from a storm water drain in Shepparton’s north.
Shepparton Fire and Rescue firefighters were called out to the corner of Haileybury St and Candlebark Dve about 10.30pm to reports of kittens trapped in a drain pipe.
It took about 20 minutes for the firefighters to free the four tiny kittens, which were all still alive.
From there they were taken to a vet where they spent the night.
On Wednesday morning, staff from Shepparton animal shelter collected the kittens from the vet.
They have been placed with a foster mother cat to feed.
The kittens are very young and animal shelter staff will care for them until they are old enough to be adopted.
The shelter is at capacity and has plenty of cats, kittens, puppies and dogs ready to go to new homes.
