A grass fire on a Kialla property was sparked by a lawnmower on Tuesday, January 17, serving as a warning for hot and breezy days.
Incident controller Ian Martin from Kialla CFA said the fire burnt about 1.5ha in paddocks and was brought under control by four crews.
The mercury had reached 35.6ºC by 3.30pm in Shepparton on Tuesday.
“Our message is, don’t do activities that could possibly cause a spark on days like today,” Mr Martin said.
“It’s the heat and there’s enough breeze — it’s surprising how quickly a little bit next to the mower can turn into something bigger, unless you’re right on top of it it’s really easy to lose it.
“In a few heartbeats it can turn from a tiny thing you’ve just noticed to something you can’t stop.”
Firefighters were called to the fire near the end of Archer Rd in Kialla about 3pm and an advice message issued said there was no threat to the community.
