The 2023 autumn firewood collection season is now open, with a limited number of locations made available to the public across the Hume region.

“In our region there are collection sites in the Strathbogie Ranges, Toombullup and Mt Disappointment State Forest,” state Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland said.

“There are again no firewood collection sites in the LGAs of Moira or Greater Shepparton.”

The season runs until the end of June, with individuals able to collect two cubic metres per day and up to 16 cubic metres per household in a financial year.

Ms Cleeland is encouraging locals who rely on firewood as their main source of heating to get their collection under way immediately.

“A lot of families across our region rely on firewood throughout the winter months to keep themselves warm,” she said.

“We have a limited number of firewood collection sites available across the region and it’s important to be prepared for the cooler months.

“With the rising cost of living, it’s important everyone has the ability to access the materials and supply they need to get through the winter.”

Ms Cleeland outlined the importance of following collection regulations.

“While collecting firewood ensure you are following all regulations and ensure your personal safety is paramount,” she said.
