The 2023 autumn firewood collection season is now open with a limited number of locations made available to the public across the Hume region.

The season runs until the end of June with individuals able to collect two cubic metres per day and up to 16 cubic metres per household in a financial year.

State Member for Euroa Annabelle Cleeland is encouraging locals who rely on firewood as their main source of heating to get their collection under way immediately.

“A lot of families across our region rely on firewood throughout the winter months to keep themselves warm,” Ms Cleeland said.

“We have a limited number of firewood collection sites available across the region and it’s important to be prepared for the cooler months.

“With the rising cost of living it’s important everyone has the ability to access the materials and supply they need to get through the winter.”

Ms Cleeland outlined several local collection sites and the importance of following collection regulations.

“In our region there are collection sites in the Strathbogie Ranges, Toombullup and Mount Disappointment State Forest,” Ms Cleeland said.

“While collecting firewood, ensure you are following all regulations and ensuring your personal safety is paramount.”
