The launch activity for the 2023 Greater Shepparton Seniors Festival was dubbed a great success.

The ‘Breakfast with the Birds’ event on Sunday, October 1, at Reedy Swamp marked the start of a month full of free and low-cost events across the region for the community’s senior members.

Presented by RiverConnect and BirdLife Murray-Goulburn, almost 40 attendees enjoyed breakfast by the water while spotting and listening to more than 50 types of birds.

City of Greater Shepparton mayor Shane Sali has encouraged the community’s older members to join in on the events this month.

“We look forward to seeing our seniors being social and engaging in activities that increase and create connections,” he said.

“This is the perfect opportunity to discover the region and have fun.”

City of Greater Shepparton deputy mayor and representative of the Greater Shepparton Positive Ageing Advisory Committee Anthony Brophy officially launched the festival at the event.

“The Seniors Festival is a great occasion for our senior community members to have fun and participate in the many events and activities taking place across the region,” Cr Brophy said.

“Over 100 events and activities, including workshops, performances, open days, and displays specifically designed for the senior community, will be held throughout the region during the month of October.”
