Two former AFL stars will visit Shepparton for WorkSafe’s Health and Safety Month, spotlighting workplace safety and mental wellbeing.
The event, scheduled for Friday, 18 October at the GV Hotel, will include presentations and discussions addressing key topics to enhance workplace health and safety.
The day will begin with the Goulburn Valley Safety Group’s annual Health & Safety Breakfast, featuring Western Bulldogs premiership player and WorkSafe ambassador Tom Boyd as the keynote speaker.
Boyd will share his personal journey and shed light on how mental health affects workplace dynamics.
Later in the day, former Geelong captain Cameron Ling will lead a session on injury recovery in the workplace.
Ling will share insights into the challenges workers face when returning to work after injury, the resources available to them and how employers can navigate this process.
“Staying current on workplace health and safety knowledge through sessions like this is as critical as knowing the next play,” Ling said.
“Protecting yourself on the job daily means you can keep doing what you love tomorrow and the next day.”
Participants will gain insights from WorkSafe experts on the latest health and safety regulations, including crucial updates on welding fume exposure standards.
The event will wrap up with a networking lunch, providing local businesses and workers with the opportunity to connect and discuss safety practices.
WorkSafe’s visit to Shepparton is part of a broader statewide initiative to promote awareness and education around workplace safety, with week-long series of webinars scheduled for later in the month.
