Big Sister Experience: Strengthening Connections with Your Young Person will take place next Tuesday, July 26.

The Big Sister Experience is coming to Shepparton to help form stronger bonds in mother-daughter relationships.

In a one-hour session, the national life education program will present Strengthening Connections with Your Young Person.

Project manager Molly Back said the program taught strategies, tools and activities for people to “put in their toolbox to create solid foundations”.

“We go over the vital role that connection plays for a young person in terms of creating a trusting relationship with adults, what healthy relationships look like and then how they can then take that — whether it's for a peer or romantic relationship,” she said.

“It's really that underlying base of why connection is so important.”

The Big Sister Experience was founded in 2019 by sisters Bianca and Kritz Sciessere.

Both former teachers, the women noticed a decline in mental health and wellbeing in the students they were working with and so sparked The Big Sister Experience.

It has made its way across the nation providing essential skills to young people who identify as women, parents and educators, covering topics from mental health to safe sex, body image and social pressures.

Each session has one main objective: connection.

“This event in Shepparton is about what can we do as adults or parents, guardians, teachers, speakers, sporting coaches — those sorts of things — to help them connect with a young person,” Ms Back said.

“To help them create that safe space where they feel like they can belong and really thrive in an environment as well.”

The session will provide a guide how to approach disagreements that will build resilience and trust, and highlight the power of vulnerability of both adult and young person.

The event will be held at the Peppermill Inn, Shepparton on Tuesday, July 26 at 7pm.
