Recently Cobram Courier reported on Mooroopna resident Marg Gow who lost several of her family rings and was asking anyone in possession of them to return them.

Ms Gow dropped a pink travel jewellery box at the PALS Op Shop in Cobram in December 2022, thinking that it was empty.

Unknown to her, the box had one black marcasite ring, one-eternity ring, three wedding rings, one pearl ring and one engagement ring in it.

For Ms Gow, it was the loss of the engagement ring, adorned with a yellow diamond, which had impacted her most.

The diamond was a part of a family story dating back to World War I.

“The engagement ring is the one I’m really after,” she said then.

A last ditch effort was made via social media and through McPherson Media to locate the family heirlooms.

On Monday, February 12, the Courier was notified that Ms Gow had all the rings returned to her.

Though deliberately vague on the details as to respect the privacy of the returnee, Ms Gow only said that she met the returnee in a little town between Cobram and Shepparton.

She stressed that the returnee did nothing wrong, stating it was her mistake that the rings went missing.

Ms Gow said she wanted to thank the returnee and all involved or who sought to help her.

“I’m so grateful,” she said.

I got a lot of support from everyone and getting the rings back was like winning the lotto. I didn’t expect it and it’s just so amazing.”
