Cobram 1 are pennant champs

The Cobram 1 pennant golf team are the champions for 2023.

Cobram 1 are the champs for season 2023, defeating Deniliquin in the Mid Murray Four Ball Pennant Golf grand final.

In what was a tough contest all day.

Cobram 1 came out three up against their opposition.

Jon Millovitch and Steve Burns lost 3-4 to Sam Callanan and Ron Turner.

Phil Boulton and Dan Ellis defeated Jarrod Sommerfeld and Geoff Bessell 5-4.

Dave Wilson and Rob Dishon went 2-1 up against Digger Ring and Col Thompson.

Will Power and Mick Millar went one up against Troy Grant and Zac Pearce.

Nick Giles and Greg Brooks went 1 down against Matt Thomas and Jarrod Pearce.

Tocumwal

On Tuesday, February 7, the ladies played stroke with Bev Richard winning the putting (25 putts) and also taking out the prized Monthly Medal with net 67 on the captain’s course.

Runner-up on 72 points was Marian Ayers.

Gross winner: Maxine Sadler 84.

Division 2: Jill Loversidge net 74, R/U Kaye Penman net 77.

Gross winner: Julie O’Brien 102.

Gold Division: Beverley Campbell 38 points.

NTPs: 2nd Sue Simpson, 8th Beth Muir, 14th Anne Beveridge, 17th Libby Quick.

Putting: Bev Richard 25 putts.

On Wednesday, February 8, the men played stableford from the blue tees on a composite course - president’s 1-10 and captain’s 10-18 holes.

Division 1: Kevin Dunn 38 points, R/U Ross Clark 37 points, 3rd Mark O’Brien 36 points.

Division 2: Allan De Luca 37 points, R/U Doug Beckwith 37 points, 3rd Bruce McCallum 37 points.

Division 3: Ian Cameron 38 points, R/U Wayne Curtis 37 points, 3rd John Washbrook 37 points.

Gold Division: Phillip Lovelace 34 points.

NTPs: 2nd Phillip Boulten, 8th Doug Beckwith, 14th Scott Eddy, 17th Bennie Benbow.

On Saturday, February 11, the competition of the day was par on the president’s course from the blue tees.

Ladies:

Division 1: Glenys Ladner +2, R/U Beth Muir +1.

Men:

Division 1: Ray Watmore +2, R/U Phillip Taylor -1, 3rd Rod Smith -1.

Division 2: Des O’Brien +1, R/U Stephen Conrick 0, 3rd Geoffrey Hanns -2.

Gold Division: Cheryl Ramsey -3.

Eagles Nest: Brett Molnar 3rd President’s hole.

On Sunday, February 12, the competition was stroke and monthly medal for the men on the captain’s course from the blue tees in windy conditions.

Men:

Division 1: Michael Peters net 70, R/U Mark Conway net 70, 3rd Luke Jarjoura net 72.

Gross winner: Luke Jarjoura 75.

Division 2: Conor Ryan net 72, R/U Ronald Huy net 73, 3rd Wayne Youlten net 73.

Gross winner: Ronald Huy 88.

Division 3: Chase Jarjoura net 70, R/U Albert Adams net 71, 3rd Peter Small net 72.

Gross winner: Albert Adams 94.

Ladies:

Division 1: Shylie Priestly net 74.

Monthly Medal winner: Chase Jarjoura net 70.

Eagles Nest: Aaron Dale Captain’s 11th hole.

NTPs: 2nd Leanne Marshall and Darren John, 8th Liam Purtill, 14th Ray Watmore, 17th Leanne Marshall and Steve Naughton.

Southern Riverina Vets

The Southern Riverina Veterans Golf Association February Competition Day was played on Monday on the president’s course at Tocumwal.

This was followed by the annual meeting, with the annual awards being presented.

Stableford was played with 104 golfers taking part.

Tocumwal player, Ron Huy, scored 39 points to take the A-grade trophy. John Hillis from Yarrawonga, on 36 points, was runner-up.

Mick Schwabe from Finley got 38 points and claimed B-grade, with Errol Kerr from Yarrawonga on 35 points as Runner-up.

Norm Eliott from Cobram, after countback on 37 points, took C-grade from John Hodges from Cobram, and also on 37.

A-grade NTP went to Paul Beaver (Finley), B-grade was Alan Arnold (Berrigan), C-grade went to Bill Williams (Jerilderie), and All-grades was claimed by Shane Halloran (Tocumwal).

Ball competition winners were players who had 29 points or better.

The 2022 Champions are as follows:

A-grade - Phillip Boulton (Cobram).

B-grade - Tony Hardy (Cobram).

C-grade - Rob Hawkes (Finley).

Doug Wastle Memorial Player Of The Year - Ron Huy (Tocumwal).

NSWVGA Medal - Rob Hawkes (Finley).

Berrigan

On Friday the competition winner was Spike Salter (51-20-31).

Runner-up was Peter Shand (41-8-33).

Joe Karakai won the putting with 12 putts and was also the ball winner (42-8-34).

Saturday’s winner was Kath Harris (57-23.5-33.5) and runner up was Chris Cameron (37-2.5-34.5).

Chris also won the putting with 14 putts.

Ball winners were Gail Browne (42-6.5-35.5) and Neil Graham (48-12-36).

It was great to see Vanessa Parr playing her first Saturday competition.

Sunday’s winner was Joe Nicholls with 38 points and runner-up was Dave Midson with 37 points.

Ball winner was Nick Manley with 35 points.

Next Sunday will be stroke with tee off at 9.30am.

The IGA golf day on Sunday, March 19 has been postponed.

A new date is yet to be set.

Finley

It was Marty Piggin with 36 points who stepped up to take out Division One at Wednesday’s stableford medley event.

Maree Doyle, also with 36 points, was the winner of Division Two.

NTPs: 13th Enid Bain, 18th Paul Beaver.

Ball competition winners down the line were: Chick Braybon and Mark Newton 35, Leo McNamara and Kevin McCumstie 34, and Rob Singleton who came in with 33 points.

When stableford was played on the back nine in the Nine Hole Competition on Thursday, three players carded 17 points.

Rand Wilson came out on top in the countback as the day’s winner, with Bill Judd as winner in the ball competition.

Kevin McCumstie, with 72 net, came home in front to take out the Daily Trophy when stroke medley was played on Saturday.

NTPs: 13th Paul Pinnuck, 18th John Taylor.

Ball competition winners were: Sharon Pyle and Enid Bain 73, Leo McNamara 74, Rand Wilson 75 and Wayne Peasley 76.

It was Paul Beaver who finished one up and survived a countback when V par medley was played on Sunday.

He took home the Division One trophy.

Eric Dean, who finished square, accepted Division Two trophy.

NTPs: 13th Paul Beaver, 18th Ian Litchfield.

Ball competition winners were: Martin Piggin and Brett Murphy one up, Robert Singleton and Jason Pyle square, and Billy Smith who had finished one down.

The annual Garnaut Mid Murray Teams Challenge event will be played next Saturday.

There is room for more teams to send in entries, but be quick.
