Members of the Jerilderie Fire + Rescue NSW not only fight fires, rescue people and assist in emergency situations, they provide assistance to seniors in the community by providing and installing smoke alarms.
They will also provide a safety audit of your home, for the purpose of the best placement of smoke alarms, and they will work on an evacuation plan with you, in case the worst case scenario should occur. And it is all free.
The brigade is recruiting more members and would love to hear from any one, male or female, who might fit the criteria.

Congratulations to Jenna and Bryce O’Brien on the birth of their daughter, in Wodonga, recently.
Sienna Sandy was born on June 15, and is the first child for Jenna and Bryce.
She is another grandchild for Sandra and Peter Robinson of Jerilderie, and Rachael and Rob O’Brien of Queensland, and another great grandchild for Sylvia Rorato and Sergio (dec).
All are doing well.

The Kinder Transition program will start at Jerilderie Public School in Term 3, on Fridays August 16 and 30, and September 13 from 9am to 3.10pm.
Term 4 dates will be October 18 and 25, and November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 9am to 3.10pm.

A cautionary tale for anyone travelling on the Newell at night between Bundure Siding and Narrandera. Watch out for straying cattle.
A young family member of your correspondent had a near miss on Saturday night, but people travelling in the opposite direction were not so lucky, when a cow strayed onto the highway in the dark.
Our grandson missed the cow by a rump, but the car with caravan driving north hit the cow full on, and ended up in a table drain on the side of the road.
The elderly driver, his wife, and their daughter and grandchildren were fortunate to get out of the vehicle, but their car and the cow were a write off.
Following traffic included an ex-emergency service worker who witnessed the scene unfolding, and was able to provide assistance and support until other help arrived on the scene.
