Public transport will be free across Victoria on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, the Victorian Government has announced.
On Christmas Day, services will run to a regular Sunday timetable and will be free from 3am, December 25 until 3am on December 26.
For New Year’s Eve, free travel begins at 6pm and continues until 6am on New Year’s Day, with extra services operating.
V/Line passengers on reserved services still need to book their travel but will be issued free tickets.
“We’re making it easier for friends and families to celebrate Christmas and the new year, delivering free public transport across the state,” Public and Active Transport Minister Gabrielle Williams said.
From January 1, 2025, daily fares will be capped at $11 for full fare and $5.50 for concession across the Victorian network. Weekend and public holiday fares will be capped at $7.60 and $3.80, respectively.
