Children can try their hand at a range of sports these school holidays, with a series of free clinics organised by Greater Shepparton City Council’s Resilience and Recovery team.
Children aged five to 15 are invited to participate in sessions of football, netball, tennis and cricket. All they need to bring is a water bottle and a readiness to give it their best shot.
For the parents on the sidelines, there will be a free coffee van available on the day.
The free clinics, which are funded by Victorian Government’s community recovery hub, aim to bring the community together and strengthen bonds following the 2022 floods.
“It is a fantastic opportunity for kids to get out there and try something new,” City of Greater Shepparton Mayor Shane Sali said.
“These clinics provide a shared experience that strengthens community bonds and builds a sense of belonging among our residents.”
Council flood recovery manager Carla Dixon said information about post-flood support services would be available.
“Committee members wanted to build on their existing assets (recreation reserves) and provide a free and accessible opportunity to all children and young people in Greater Shepparton,” Ms Dixon said.
“The activity will provide an opportunity for all families to receive disaster recovery information and build their knowledge of the support that is available post-October 2022 floods.”
The clinics will kick off in Murchison at the Murchison Recreation Reserve on Monday, April 8.
They will then be at Undera’s Recreation Reserve on Tuesday, April 9 and at Kialla Main Oval at the Kialla Park Recreation Reserve on Wednesday, April 10.
The final session will take place on Thursday, April 11 at the Mooroopna Recreation Reserve.
Each day features four 30-minute sessions, as well as a morning tea break, and will run from 9.15am until noon.
