Friends of Australian Botanic Gardens Shepparton have unveiled their new project ‘Connecting our Urban Community with Nature’.

The celebration of the completion of this project was held at the Children’s Garden area.

Extended works included signage, a bike rack, extra nature play space and a conversation/reflection/outdoor classroom area.

This project was financed by a grant from the Bendigo Bank and Greater Shepparton Connected Community funding.

They were joined by some members of the local Soroptimists who had donated a seat overlooking this area in recognition of their 50th anniversary.

A majestic gnarled grey box looms large over the area, and one of the newly installed story poles tells a tale of how the tree was named.

With the “cutting of the gold ribbon”, they also had planting activities, making a bird feeder and bark painting, followed by a celebratory cuppa.
