Some young members of the Rose City’s community have done their bit to help the town rebuild following the devastating storm which hit in February.
Community group Tomorrow Today’s Full Impact Squad has raised more than $600 for the Benalla Uniting Church and the Benalla Saints Sports Club.
The squad was out and about at the Benalla Lakeside Craft and Farmers market across February and March raising funds to help repair buildings damaged in the freak storm.
They sold handmade beeswax wraps, pancake spaghetti, spider drinks and ran a guessing competition at their stall at the market.
Last week, they handed over the fruits of their labour, with two cheques — both worth $302.65 each — handed to the two organisations.
The All-Saints Sports Club was handed a cheque to help rebuild the kiosk at the sporting field at Arundel St which was damaged by the storm, while church president Gavin Harrison and secretary Nancy Burgess were on hand to receive a cheque for the church.
The church sustained extensive damage to its roof in the storm.
“The storm took off the entire roof and damaged some of the brickwork at the top of the church hall. We’re very pleased to receive this contribution to its repair,” Mr Harrison said.
Ms Burgess said it was great to have young people helping the community.
“What an amazing group of young people — they should be very proud of their fundraising efforts,” she said.
