The Customer Reference Group for the Loch Garry Future Service Strategy recently held its fourth meeting, as it continues to work towards identifying the best option for the future of the Loch Garry flood regulator.
The meeting provided the group with the chance to review detailed modelling of how the different options may impact the flow of water during a flood.
Consulting group Water Technology developed the flood modelling over several months and is continuing to work on mapping out some further options.
The Customer Reference Group, Goulburn-Murray Water and the Goulburn Broken Catchment Management Authority all provided information to help inform the modelling.
Customer Reference Group member Stuart Grinter said he was pleased with the progress being made.
“Loch Garry has been around for 100 years, so it is going to take some time to work out what the best option is for its future,” he said.
“There’s still some way to go, but it has been a productive process so far."
Fellow reference group member Mackenzie Craig said the information presented at the meeting had been useful.
“It was good to get together with the rest of the group and see the initial outputs of the modelling,” he said.
“There was some robust discussion about what the modelling showed, and we are looking forward to seeing the advances made at the next meeting.”
Water Technology will now undertake additional analysis and visualisations of the model to fully consider all options.
The Customer Reference Group will then meet again to discuss a preferred option.
G-MW strategy and services planning general manager Steven Abbott said there would be an opportunity for the broader public to view the results of the flood modelling in the new year.
“The future of Loch Garry is a complex and important matter,” he said.
“We’re thankful for the time the Customer Reference Group has dedicated to exploring future options, but we are also eager to ensure everyone has the opportunity to share their perspective.”
