The days windy and tepid weather was not enough to keep some several hundred bargain hunters from wandering down Allan St for Kyabram’s annual Spring Market.

While most Fridays in Kyabram see happy customers wandering through businesses celebrating the anticipated weekend, on Friday, November 8 crowds were noticeably more excited and for good reason.

The annual Spring Market, formerly known as the Bush Market, rolled into town once again with market stalls setting up tents as early as 7am and local businesses already situated along the length of Allan St preparing for another busy year.

Even before the clock chimed 9am, customers were already making their way through the clothes stall outside of Ajes Shoes and Fashion, who were having sale where everything from shoes to dresses was $20.

Cash handler for the popular stall, Bev Taylor said it was great to see people out and about, especially the visitors who she said were easy to pick out from the crowd.

However, it was local businesses situated along Allan St who reaped the most rewards from the annual Spring Market as cafes flooded with patrons searching for caffeine and curious shoppers packing retail shops making use of the day’s many discounts.

Most businesses offered a discount of anywhere from 10 to 50 per cent off items on products, making it a sweet deal for the hundreds of people who made their way down the street.

Jess Scoble, owner of Burnt Butter and Ben Eliason, barista at Wickedly Devine were impressed with the turnout - both cafes seeing many customers flood through their doors from the moment they opened.

Market wanderers’ ears were treated entertainment by the talented Kyabram P-12 College students; first with a recorder serenade where Year’s 5 and 6 students played a set list filled with classic tunes and Christmas melodies.

The primary school choir, fresh off their breakout State School Spectacular performance, then took to the stage and delighted a crowd of over 60 people who stopped to listen to songs such as Cover Me in Sunshine by Pink, Riptide by Vance Joy and You Are My Sunshine popularised by Johnny Cash.

The event’s success was bolstered by the hundreds of visitors flocking to Kyabram for the RV Country Music Festival which annually coincides with the Spring Market.
