The Christmas spirit was alive and well at the Lockington Heritage Centre for a community lunch, hosted by Lockington and District Bush Nursing Centre.

Community members were treated to a festive feast on Tuesday, December 17, also coinciding with the official launch of the Lockington Community Kitchen and Foodshare.

Bush Nursing manager Sharon Moran was delighted to celebrate Christmas early together with the people of Lockington.

“We wanted people to come together to share food and enjoy Christmas spirit,” she said.

“And to party with the bush nurses!”

Rounding out the occasion were home-made hampers, put together thanks to a donation from the Felmingham family.

Foodshare project manager and Bush Nursing administrative assistant Michelle Stephenson felt that a lunch was fitting both to celebrate the silly season, and to increase awareness about the kitchen and the food-share.

“It’s definitely the time of year for communities to come together and to make people feel they’re not alone,” she said.

“We’ve got their back.

“It’s a time that is really difficult on families financially, so that confidence in the community that they’ve got this as a backup is what we really want to promote going forward.

“Everyone needs to be reminded that someone is looking out for them.”
