Gannawarra Shire Council is gearing up for its 2024 elections after nominations opened on Monday, September 9.

Residents who are an Australian citizen, a registered voter in the Gannawarra Shire and who will be at least 18 or older as of October 26 will be eligible to stand for election.

Council chief executive Geoff Rollinson highlighted a significant change for this election.

“The 2024 Gannawarra Shire Council elections will be the first time that we will be operating under an unsubdivided structure, meaning that eligible enrolled voters will be voting for elected representatives from across the municipality,” he said.

Anyone keen to run for the election will need to book an appointment with the election manager at the electorate office at 36 Victoria St, Kerang.

Appointments will be available until noon on Tuesday, September 17.

During the appointment, nominees will lodge a nomination form, pay the $250 fee and provide evidence that they have completed the mandatory candidate training online through Local Government Victoria.

Ballot packs will be posted to all enrolled voters from Monday, October 7, and must be returned by post or by dropping it off to the electoral office by 6pm on Friday, October 25.
