Get a team together for important Pink Day

At the recent Finley Lions changeover dinner were (back, from left) Garry Blackney (secretary), Bill Judd (second vice president), Steve McRae (president), Kurt Bauer (Berrigan Lions inducting officer), Paul Sexton (assistant treasurer), Greg Brunt (first vice president) and Gavin Butcher (public relations director); (front) Bill Rowlands (assistant secretary), Alex Brain (tail twister), Warwick Douglas (treasurer) and John O'Rourke (safety officer).

An event which has become well known and for special reasons will take place at the Finley Golf Club on Wednesday, August 14.

The annual Pink Day is being organised by Joanne Dean for the 19th year with Finley Bakery the major sponsor.

However, Joanne would also like to acknowledge the many businesses and personal donations that make this day such a success, including the Lions Club members who will once again be attending to the barbecue.

This day came about after Joanne lost her mother to breast cancer and the event has continued to grow with many clubs from the surrounding area taking part.

The competition this year will be a women’s and men’s 2 person ambrose teams event with a 9.30am assembly for 10am shotgun start.

Entry fee is $30 per player which includes a barbecue lunch.

Non-handicappers are most welcome to play or just join in the fun.

There will be raffles, best dressed, straightest drive, nearest the pin, ball comp and much more.

Entries close Monday, August 12 or when field capacity is reached.

Enter by email to maryapolk@gmail.com or phone 0428 104 284. Please provide player names, Golflink numbers and if using/sharing a cart.

If anyone should find themselves available to play at the last minute, Captain Mary certainly won’t knock them back!

Golf cart bookings can be made by calling the Finley Golf Club on 5883 1360. There is a limited number available and they will be allocated in order of receipt.

Proceeds from the day are donated to breast cancer research, so let’s work together to make a difference

Alan Hand was the lucky winner of the Finley Lions Club wood raffle last Saturday.

Alan is just one of the wonderful members of the club who continues to give of their time to assist the local community.

The raffle is just one of the great initiatives from our local Lions Club, which this year is lead by Steve McRae as president. He was inducted at the changeover dinner in June.
