With school holidays beginning, the ancient question uttered by just about every parent with children can be heard — ‘what am I going to do with the kids?’

Shepparton Art Museum is offering a myriad activities as part of its winter camp holiday program.

The program will run from Monday, June 27, to Thursday, July 7, and SAM acting artistic director and engagement manager Gabriella Calandro said it was about “fun and creativity”.

“From a hands-on magi-clay workshop where participants will be adding their creations to our children’s exhibition Liquidarium to collaging and comic design for teens, SAM has something to interest all and keep young makers’ minds and hands occupied these school holidays,” she said.

The exhibition Liquidarium, now showing in SAM’s children’s gallery, was inspired by the wetlands and rivers just outside the art museum.

Melbourne artist Vera Möller is hosting two masterclass sessions teaching children and teens the beauty and fun of diorama-making.

There’s something for everyone across the program, even toddlers.

A sensory play program has been designed to help not only develop fine motor skills but also introduce the little ones to art from their earliest years.

Aimed at children aged 10 to 15, two workshops delving into the art of comic making will be led by comics teacher and Melbourne artist Aaron Billings.

The itinerary also features several SAM staff-led sessions exploring collaging and painting for teens, as well as a free screening of The Lorax.

Bookings are encouraged for all programs.
