Building with hemp and tips on using drones on farms are just some of the topics covered by the Seymour Alternative Farming Expo’s farm lectures and demonstrations.

The farm lectures, co-ordinated and overseen by the Seymour Agricultural and Pastoral Society, run between 9.30am to 2.30pm each day of the expo, which starts on Friday, March 31.

Subject specialists will cover cattle, sheep and alpaca basics; soil, pasture and weed management; Boer goats; Highland cattle; managing fruit fly; biosecurity advice; and how to get into agri-ventures/tourism.

Anyone wanting to find out more about making the most of drone technology should head to the Falcon UAV demonstrations on the rear oval on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.

The talented team will cover aerial bird scaring techniques and monitoring pasture and crop health from the sky to reduce fertiliser spend and other input costs.

Sessions will be held at 10.30am, noon, 1.30pm and 3.15pm.

Homeowners interested in seeking out more comfortable, energy-efficient and sustainable building options should not miss expo regular David Brian from Southern Hemp.

“The expo has been a great platform to be able to fully explain the process and benefits of building a hemp home,” he said.

Mr Brian will be in the learning hub on Friday at noon discussing hemp farming and then each day at 10.30am and 2pm will run building demonstrations.
