Gifts from MenShed keep flowing

Finley Public School principal Owen Gill and Finley MenShed president Gavin Butcher.

The Finley MenShed’s support for the community continues to trickle through, with Finley Public School the latest to receive a donation.

Principal Owen Gill said it would certainly be put to good use.

The Finley MenShed was established in March 2010 after a visit from members of the Deniliquin group, who explained the advantages of physical occupation and mental health.

In the years since, Finley MenShed has raised enough funds to purchase the land on which it is situated and contribute generously to other organisations in the local area.

If you would like to join this amazingly friendly and active group, feel free to call in at the shed and have a chat, keep your mind and body active and make great friends.

The MenShed - which is also open to women members - is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays between 8.30am and noon. Other times can be arranged by appointment.

Activities undertaken at the MenShed include woodwork, restoration of furniture, metal work, ceramics, leather work and many more. They also work closely with the local Second-hand Shop.

Berrigan Shire Dementia Alliance members have been working hard for some time to help shire residents understand and manage this debilitating condition.

‘Unlocking Hope – No. 9’ will take place at the Finley RS Club on Thursday, July 18 at 10.15 for a 10.30am start.

Topics over the past eight sessions with guest speakers have been varied and proved very helpful for many residents of Finley and surrounding areas.

Those attending will hear from members of the community and their carers who have been diagnosed with dementia and how they have learned to cope with the condition.

An invitation to attend this session is extended to residents of Barooga, Berrigan, Tocumwal, Finley as well as Cobram, Jerilderie and Deniliquin.

Remember – together, we can make a difference!
