‘Give that they may grow’

There will be a great number of donating options to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal this Good Friday, March 29. With Good Friday the primary day for raising money for the Good Friday Royal Children’s Hospital Appeal, many towns in our region are hosting different events to provide support for this very worthwhile cause.

Next Friday, March 29 the following events will be held around the region.

There is also a great number of events held right across the Easter long weekend so check out what is on around the region.

Yarrawonga

The Good Friday Appeal is on Friday, March 29 with the Yarrawonga CFA and SES again conducting the street drive. Starting at 8/8.30am volunteers will be visiting each area of Yarrawonga in the fire trucks with sirens resounding while members will be walking the streets rattling tins.

The CFA and SES ask residents to come out of their homes into the streets as the vehicles pass to meet them and donate to this worthy cause.

Volunteers will also head down to the river and caravan parks at some point throughout the day to visit people who are camping in the area that may also want to donate.

Any children or parents that would like to get involved in the tin rattling, meet at the CFA station (Woods Road) at 8am on Good Friday morning.

The Yarrawonga Yacht Club is also raising funds from 2pm – 8pm where there will be fantastic live music from the famous Bali Band as well as an Easter egg hunt, woodfire pizza, food vans, fun for the kids, a silent auction alongside Easter raffles from 3pm.

In the meantime, a number of businesses around Yarrawonga including CMCU, which has been heavily involved in the appeal for many years, are collecting donations for the Good Friday Appeal with collection tins aligning front counters.

Easter Tennis Tournament

The ever popular and well attended Annual Easter Tennis Tournament at the Yarrawonga Lawn Tennis Club and JC Lowe oval will be held from Friday, March 29 to Monday, April 1.

There will also be football/netball galore with both Mulwala and Yarrawonga kicking off their 2024 seasons with matches to be played at Lonsdale Reserve.

Yarrawonga will use Mulwala’s home ground to kick off their year against Wodonga on Easter Sunday.

Mulwala

Mulwala Fire and Rescue will again be taking part in the annual Good Friday Appeal for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

Donations can be made at the station from 9am on Good Friday and everyone is most welcome.

The Mulwala Football Netball Club will also be playing against traditional Easter rival Congupna at Lonsdale Reserve on Good Friday with tins/buckets to be going around the ground giving the crowd the chance to donate to the cause.

Tungamah

CFA will be running their usual tin collection run on Good Friday morning starting from 9.30am

After this is completed, the Tungamah Social Club will hold their major fundraiser of the year for the Good Friday Appeal from 11am onwards at the Tungamah Hotel.

The famous and much-loved Car Rally around the district will take place first with registration between 11am and 12noon at the front of the Tungamah Hotel with a prize up for grabs for first and second place. Follow the course, clues and answer questions along the way.

After the car rally, make your way back to the Tungamah Hotel for raffles from 12 noon onwards with 50+ draws valued at a minimum of $50.

There is also fresh produce, cakes and preserves stalls, the ever-fun yabby races at 2pm, goods and services auction from 2:30pm onwards, food and drinks available all day with grab and go and full menu available as well as so much fun for the kids including a jumping castle, water slide and face painting.

The Tungamah Social Club have been raising funds for this cause and others for over 15 years so come along on Good Friday and assist them to raise funds for a very worthwhile cause.

Bundalong

The Bundalong CFA will again be conducting their street drive. Starting at 9am the Fire truck will be driving along the streets of Bundalong with sirens resounding while members will be walking the streets rattling tins.

The CFA ask residents to come out of their homes into the streets as the vehicles pass to meet them and donate to this worthy cause.

After a big Australia Day event the Bundalong Tavern will this Good Friday have live music from Anthony Lorenzo from 12pm – 3pm before Daniel Barrett takes to the stage from 6.30pm – 9.30pm.

Donations can still be made to the Good Friday Appeal.

Anthony Lorenzo will be back again on the Saturday and Sunday from 8pm – 11pm and 1pm – 4pm respectively.

Devenish/Dookie

After claiming the runners up position, second spot on the regional tally board after raising a whopping $120,248 last year, the Devenish-Dookie Good Friday Appeal is once again going above and beyond for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The DDGFA annual online auction proudly sponsored by Kevin Hicks Real Estate was completed on March 19 with the committee hosting their annual event, a Show 'n' Shine on Good Friday at the Gladstone Hotel/ main street of Dookie.

There will be activities for the whole family including raffles, auctions, kids rides and most importantly plenty of live music.

Come along and enjoy an afternoon of fun and laughter for the whole family to help raise much needed funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.
