Two workers at a caravan park in Kyabram had a warmer spring morning than usual when a golf cart they were driving burst into flames.
At 10.05am on Thursday, October 24, managers of Kyabram Western Gums Tourist Park Craig and Tammie Elliott said they smelled smoke as they drove around the park completing duties.
When they turned around to inspect for smoke, they saw flames coming from the back of the cart and called for assistance.
Two minutes later, three Kyabram fire trucks arrived at the tourist park and quickly extinguished the fire.
Kyabram CFA First Lieutenant Kim Morrison said the fire stemmed from a fault in the cart’s battery, which was located under the seat Mr and Mrs Elliott were sitting on.
The managers were shaken by the event, but were not injured.
“We haven’t even had our breakfast yet,” Mr Elliott said.
It is the park’s sole golf cart, and its loss will limit the speed at which they get things done, Mrs Elliott said.
“I’m going to have to have a whisky with my coffee this morning, I think,” Mr Elliott said.
Mr Morrison said VicEmergency would inform EnergySafe Victoria about the incident and the model of vehicle that caught fire.
