Good news kicks off show

The much-loved Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show is gearing up for its big weekend at the start of October with some good news across the board.

Each year all Australian Agricultural shows hold a Junior and Senior Rural Ambassador Award Program that encourages and supports young people living in rural and regional Victoria.

The award highlights community and show involvement, talent, creativity and ingenuity of young Victorians. The program engages young show enthusiasts to showcase their involvement across their local communities.

VAS (Victorian Agricultural Shows) Ltd wants to showcase the Emerging Leaders of the State and these programs aim to allow young people to represent their Show Society/Community.

The programs allow participants to develop their personal skills through interview experience, on-stage presentation, meeting new people with similar interests and developing interpersonal skills.

These awards are held at the local Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show, and the winners are then sent to the local North East Group.

This year local winners Geoffrey Summer-Johnston and Karla Evans both won their North East Group titles.

Karla will attend the Royal Melbourne Show on October 4-6 for her chance at the State Title. The winner receives $3000 in prize money, which includes travel to represent Victoria at the Nationals Finals and a VAS State Final Trophy. The runner up receives $1500 prize money.

Previously John Wright represented the Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show in these State Titles.

Another local who is on standby to participate in the Royal Melbourne Show is Emma Coen.

Emma is a very talented local who does very well at the local show with all of her needlecraft.

After winning at the Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show last year, Emma advanced to the North East Group titles where she finished second in the finals and is on standby if the first placegetter is unable to participate in the Royal Melbourne Show.

On top of some of the accomplishments of local participants and committee members, the Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show was awarded a Moira Shire Community Strengthening Grant after the committee decided to lodge an application to update the Main Pavilion tables which were very heavy and cumbersome to put into place.

The stage audience banks of chairs were also very heavy and cumbersome, so these have also been updated. This grant allows the committee to slowly update the infrastructure and equipment for the community at showtime.

The Yarrawonga Mulwala Agricultural Show will be held on Friday, October 4 and Saturday, October 5, and it will again offer plenty of fun and activities.
