GOTAFE mobile campus pays visit to Nagambie

Helping hand: GOTAFE mobile campus senior careers advisor Marion Langford helps Nagambie resident June Debono in her job hunt.

Personalised career advice, guidance, workshops and TAFE sessions could be coming to your town soon, with the GOTAFE mobile campus touring the region, working with 11 local government areas.

GOTAFE mobile campus is an outreach service aimed at reducing barriers, like travel, to accessing education and job services.

The travelling campus holds workshops like resume writing or mock interviews and one-on-one career consults.

Mobile campus senior careers advisor Marion Langford said GOTAFE was about building people’s confidence in their skills and ability to contribute to the workforce.

“It’s something that helps them get going,” she said.

“It doesn’t matter what age you are.

“It’s so rewarding when they see the possibilities.”

GOTAFE advisors like Ms Langford can play an important role in helping people find new career paths.

But for some, help may be as simple as assistance with learning to use their phone or setting up an email account.

June Debono, a retiree who moved to Nagambie from Merricks on the Mornington Peninsula, spoke to Ms Langford while GOTAFE was visiting Nagambie.

Mrs Debono is hoping to turn her passion for food and wine into a job at a local winery.

“I don’t like full-time retirement,” she said.

“I just want something different, something that I think will be fun.”

Ms Langford will help Mrs Debono work on her resume to capture her background and interest in hospitality.

Mrs Debono will also complete an RSA refresher at GOTAFE.
