Shepparton GOTAFE has paid tribute to a “talented and passionate” student.
Police found a body at Lake Mulwala on Thursday evening, believed to be that of Shepparton’s Jack Bird, who was an apprentice at GOTAFE in Shepparton.
“Our thoughts are with Jack’s family, friends, classmates, trainers and workmates during this incredibly difficult time,” a GOTAFE spokesperson said.
“In his time with us, Jack showed incredible talent and passion for engineering.”
The 16-year-old apprentice developed an interest in engineering during work experience at Goulburn Valley Engineering Works and began a Certificate III in Mechanical Engineering at GOTAFE.
“Despite only having six months’ experience, Jack recently won a gold medal at the WorldSkills Regional Turning Competition, demonstrating his natural skill and enthusiasm,” the spokesperson said.
Jack’s friends and colleagues described him as an exemplary student, with ambition, drive and dedication to his craft.
“Staff and students at GOTAFE are deeply saddened at this time,” the spokesperson said.
