Between these two highly esteemed educators from Grahamvale Primary School, there are 67 years of wisdom and teaching experience to celebrate.
Lynda Neal and Anda O’Keeffe are the library and integration worker and assistant principal respectively, and retired at the end of the school year.
Ms Neal has been in teaching for 29 years, 26 of those at Grahamvale Primary.
She said seeing the school’s development, with all the transformations along the way, had been extra special.
“It’s been a privilege to see the school grow,” Ms Neal said.
“We had 72 students when I first started here and now we’re at about 380.”
When asked what advice she would give to upcoming teachers, Ms Neal shared a simple but powerful message.
“Just enjoy your time, cherish every day and remember that you have a big effect on these little lives.”
As for Ms O’Keeffe, finishing her career at Grahamvale Primary after 38 years in the education industry was an honour.
“It’s been quite a good finish to my career,” she said.
“It wasn’t something I ever aspired to be, but to finish in the assistant principal role has been truly rewarding.”
Ms O’Keeffe said working with children was the highlight of her day and her career, and she loved seeing students start their education all the way up to graduating Year 6.
“Without a doubt, there’s been many changes to the educational system in my 38 years, but paramount is that the students are always at the centre and what is best for them to ensure their growth,” Ms O’Keeffe said.
“It’s a village that brings up a child, not just the parents or just the teachers.”
The pair have differed in their educational journeys, but one thing remains foremost — the love and enjoyment they have for the students.
