Greater Shepparton City Council will be conducting ‘fogging’ to halt the breeding of mosquitoes.

Fogging is used to kill insects, including mosquitoes, by spraying fine pesticides directed by a blower.

According to council, the technique will help stop mosquitoes breeding, with populations exploding recently due to flooding and heavy rainfall.

Council has advised residents of the best options to protect themselves from mosquitoes, including using mosquito repellent at outdoor events.

It is recommended to follow the ‘Beat the bite’ advice.

These tips include covering up by wearing long, loose-fitting clothing (because mosquitoes can bite through tight-fitting clothing), and using effective mosquito repellents containing Deet, Picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus on all exposed skin.

It is recommended to install flywire screens on all windows, and self-closing wire screens on doors, empty children’s wading pools when not being used, and keep fish ponds stocked with fish.
