From sizzling sausages to green energy solutions, a free barbecue at Maude St Mall this Saturday, July 29, promises to serve up a feast for your taste buds and food for thought.

The event, cooked up by Shepparton activist group Slap Tomorrow, aims to turn up the heat on climate change discussions, demonstrating how going green can save you green.

The event is set to provide an interactive showcase on sustainable living, demonstrating methods to simultaneously save money and decrease carbon footprints.

The sausages and onions will be cooked on an induction hotplate powered by an electric car, as induction cooking significantly outperforms traditional electric stoves in efficiency and also surpasses gas or wood-fired cooking.

Friends of the Earth ‘No More Gas’ co-ordinator Freja Leonard will discuss the advantages of household energy independence from gas.

The barbecue event is scheduled to take place at Maude St Mall, near the newly constructed playground, from 10am to 1pm

Ms Leonard will give her talk on energy independence from gas around 11am.
