On Friday, October 18 around 9pm, CFA crews responded to reports of a fire at a unit on Ogilvie Ave, Echuca.

Echuca CFA and Echuca Village Fire Brigade volunteer firefighters attended the scene, where the second storey was alight.

They were able to contain the fire and ensure minimal smoke damage to adjoining properties.

The damage sustained to level two of a unit block on Ogilvie Ave, Echuca.

Fire and Rescue NSW from Moama and Deniliquin provided assistance, and Fire Rescue Victoria supported through a ladder platform truck, heavy pumper and breathing apparatus from Bendigo.

Echuca CFA Captain Daniel Moylan said while the ladder platform was unused, it was good to have so much support.

“We had a good turnout,” he said.

“The ladder platform didn’t need to be used in the end, but it was better off having them on the road and turn out, come on scene and not need them than to need them and wait for an hour or so.”

A strong turnout of services responded to the scene.

Victoria Police closed the road, while Ambulance Victoria monitored firefighter monitoring and Powercor isolated the power.

Victoria Police officers were on scene quickly to close the road and Ambulance Victoria attended for firefighter monitoring.

CFA fire investigators are looking into the cause of the incident and the Echuca unit is awaiting the outcome.
