Police have seized five guns and an explosives device from a Mooroopna shed.

Shepparton police Sergeant Josh McCabe said police found the five longarm guns — including one that had been stolen — and the explosives device in a shed after making inquiries about another matter they had been alerted to.

All the items were found in two toolboxes in a shed at a Stevens Cres property on Tuesday, January 10.

A crime scene was made at the house on Tuesday night, until Arson and Explosives police could remove the explosives device the following day.

Police arrested a man in a car in the driveway of a house in Madge Crt, Mooroopna on Wednesday morning.

A 46-year-old Mooroopna man was remanded in custody on Thursday night.

He has been charged with possessing a traffickable quantity of firearms, possessing firearms while a prohibited person, five counts of possessing unregistered firearms, possessing firearms without a licence, handling stolen goods and three counts of drug possession.

He faced Shepparton Magistrates’ Court briefly on Friday where he was remanded in custody to next appear in court later this month.
