Goulburn Valley league footballers and netballers will this week join the voting for the richest country media award, the $5000 Moama Bowling Club-GAME ON podcast Footballer and Netballer of the Year.
Thirteen goals from Tongala forward Darren Ewing gave him top votes for Tongala, while Picola United’s Blake Jorgensen polled top votes in his 100th appearance for the Picola district league club.
Moama star Tom Sheldon, one half of Echuca United’s Harney brothers (James) and Mathoura’s Kai Macrae were others to poll maximum votes.
The award is unique in that it covers four different leagues, Rochester and Echuca in the Goulburn Valley, Tongala, Moama and Echuca United in the Murray league, Picola district league’s Picola United and Mathoura, then Colbinabbin, Leitchville-Gunbower and Lockington Bamawm United in the Heathcote league.
This week players from Echuca and Rochester will join the voting, along with two of the three Heathcote league clubs.
There are several familiar names among the best on court netballers, with United co-coach Jess Saunders polling top votes, along with Moama star Tiarna Steele and Tongala’s Grace Holland.
Full voting details from this week’s matches will appear in Wednesday’s edition of The Riv. Players involved in senior football and A-grade netball competitions are eligible for the awards and voting is completed by an opposition coach or official.

Picola district league: Picola United v Deni Rovers, Mathoura v Waaia. Heathcote league: Lockington Bamawn v White Hills, Colbinabbin v North Bendigo, Leitchville Gunbower bye.
