The newly refurbished Darlington Point Hall is reopening to the community next month as it celebrates its belated 100th birthday with a 1920s themed event.
Following a $400,000 refurbishment, the official re-launch of the Murrumbidgee Shire Hall in Darlington Point will take place on Saturday, July 1 from 6pm.
Murrumbidgee Council general manager John Scarce said the centenary celebration is set to be a wonderful night.
“We were very keen for community groups to have the opportunity to use the evening as a fundraiser, and we were delighted when Darlington Point Public School P&C and Heritage Darlington Point put their hands up,” he said.
“We have provided seed funding of $2,500 towards the event and are also providing in-kind support”.
The hall had previously been closed due to safety reasons while refurbishments were underway.
The upgrades have been funded under the NSW Government Stronger Communities Fund and included structural improvements, a new commercial kitchen, and general internal and external improvements.
Regarded as an icon in the Darlington Point community, the hall has held many important community and family events.
It has also been frequently used by the local public school and football clubs for events.
Like many projects over the past few years, the refurbishment of the hall was fraught with delays due to supply issues.
The council is welcoming the community to celebrate the hall’s historical milestone in a fitting 1920s themed event, after it turned 100 years old in 2022.
The free event will include live entertainment from Dookie and Shane, with food available for purchase.
The hall will also be open from 10am on July 2 for people to drop in for a cup of tea and a chat with Heritage Darlington Point.
A heritage display will be available, as well as a walk through tour of the newly refurbished hall.
