Saturday, March 18, was a busy day for Benalla with events going on across the Rose City, including Harmony Day.

Hosted by the North East Multicultural Association (NEMA), the event is a chance for the many ethnic groups who call Victoria home to show off their homelands customs, food and clothing.

NEMA president Su Ingleton said despite it being a very hot day, and competing with the air show, she was very pleased with how the event went.

“We had about 10 different nations represented,” Ms Ingleton said

“We had the Scots School Albury band, and the Sri Lanken dancers. We also had Greek dancers, the Benalla Irish music group, the Benalla guitar group and an Italian singer, Sebastiano.”

Local Benalla artist Yushan Lou was doing traditional Chinese water colour paintings at the event.

NEMA outreach worker Faryil Khan was also on hand to do henna tattoos.

Ms Ingleton thanked local emergency services who attended the day.

“We had the SES, Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police there,” she said.

"The police bought a little three wheeler bike for the kids to ride on and SES had one of its rescue boats there.

"Overall we were very pleased with how it all went.“
